How Big is our God?

How Big is our God?

I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed today. I’ve got a lot I want and need to do but not nearly enough time to do it. This pandemic has been a bit of a shock to the system.

As I was taking my concerns to the Lord however I was struck with the thought: Is this trial making me see God as bigger or smaller?

When I’m overwhelmed and distracted my God gets smaller and weaker. I think that I’ve got to cover all the bases and if I’m not going to do it than it won’t get done. Sometimes that is true but then the question comes – if it didn’t get done than did it really need to get done?

Instead of shrinking God in my eyes I should be magnifying him, making him bigger.

David sings in Psalm 34:3 (in the ESV version) “Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!”  In the CSB it translates: “Proclaim the Lord’s greatness with me; let us exalt his name together.”

If my God is big, even huge then he has the strength to take care of what I don’t get to. In fact he is better at doing it anyway and I may be just getting in the way. I just have to believe the truth.

Does that excuse me for being lazy? Nah, it just means that I serve with the strength that he provides (1 Peter 4:11) and rest (Ps 62:1)

So, take time to meditate on how big our God is. He expands in our mind as we realize just how powerful he really is. Read Ps 34, pray through it, pray that God would help you believe it and live it. Our God is infinite and he loves us so much!
