Thoughts on Thankfulness

Thoughts on Thankfulness

Are you a thankful person? Am I?
At times I can be critical, grumpy, frustrated or just plain jealous instead of thankful for who I am and what I have. This is not the way that God wants me to live and it’s not the way I want to live either when I’m honest.

What sort of reason does God give me to be thankful instead of being so negative?

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful. By it, we may serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. — Hebrews 12:28-29 (CSB)

Who are we? We are chosen by God not because of what we have done but because of what he did.

What do we have? A guaranteed future in heaven and a role here on earth as his servants to do his will.

When I am in that critical, grumpy, frustrated or just plain jealous place it helps me to simplify my life and go back to basics like this.

  • If I am critical and see problems all around me – I believe that God is in control and he’s working his plan.
  • If I am grumpy and see my circumstances as bleak – I believe God has me on a track towards heaven.
  • If I am frustrated and can’t seem to get a head – I believe that God has a different definition of success.
  • If I am jealous and always seem to want more – I believe that God is enough for me.

I can be thankful for who I am and what I have when I see my life, circumstances and future with the truth in mind. God has got it all worked out. Let’s be thankful for that!

With you in the journey,
Paul
